Farmers in Paincourtville are still waiting for reimbursement checks from Mantle Oil and Gas Company a month and a half after a well blew out and spewed oil and natural gas over their fields.
Mantle Oil and Gas said everyone who lost money "has been taken care of," but farmers there said that's not true.
Keith Dugas has yet to receive a dime for the acres of sugar cane he won't be able to harvest.
"It's really frustrating that nobody contacted us," said Dugas. The last time he spoke with Mantle Oil and Gas, the company promised to pay him for lost crops. He has not heard anything since that meeting in August.
Mantle Oil and Gas said it is waiting on its insurance company to send money. Spokespeople did not have any idea when farmers will get their checks.
The company also said it is still waiting on the Department of Environmental Quality to approve a plan for cleaning up the area previously covered in oil, natural gas and salt water.
