Famous "Black Beauty" auctioned
NEW YORK- The Les Paul Gibson guitar known as "Black Beauty" sold at auction $335,000 at Guernsey's but it didn't set a record.
Les Paul was a jazz, country and blues guitarist and the six-string instrument with gold-plated hardware made in 1954 set the standard for other Les Paul Gibson guitars.
Paul died in 2009 and played the guitar in concerts, studio recordings and on the "Les Paul and Mary Ford" television show.
The record for auctioning a guitar involves the Fender Stratocaster that Bob Dylan played at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival. It sold for $965,000 two years ago.
