Family says arrest is only partial closure in hit-and-run case
The family of a 22-year-old woman hit by a vehicle Monday night say an arrest in the case provides some closure.
Tommie Hadley, known as Chrisy to her family, was hit on LA 42 in Ascension Parish, while she was walking along the highway with her brother. Authorities say the driver fled from the scene without stopping.
Wednesday afternoon, State Police identified that driver as 34-year-old Kathleen Fitzpatrick, and arrested her for felony hit and run driving. An Iberville Parish Sheriff's deputy spotted Fitzpatrick in the banged up vehicle near Maringouin earlier in the day, pulled her over and alerted troopers.
Hadley's family, who took her off of life support Wednesday afternoon, say the arrest does help with healing, but their loved one's last wish, to be an organ donor, is helping them the most.
They say they're thankful for all law enforcement involved in the case for all of their hard work, as well as the community who have supported them through the past few days.
Troopers say, if convicted, Fitzpatrick faces 10 years in prison.
