WBRZ - Baton Rouge

Update: Family members say the two Baton Rouge men who drowned in Perdido Key yesterday were good swimmers.

Family members say the drownings happened late in the afternoon and no one saw what happened. 61-year-old Peter Landry and 46-year-old Charles McKenzie were roommates. The two were on vacation with McKenzie's parents.

The two died after getting caught in the beach's strong riptides. Firefighters found McKenzie on the shore, but CPR couldn't revive him. Meanwhile, authorities say Landry was found dead floating in the gulf.

Family members are unsure if they'll ever know how Landry and McKenzie drowned.
