Family mourns loss of two children killed by car
GEISMAR - A day after two children were killed while fishing with their father, family and friends in their neighborhood are grieving the loss of the kids.
Faria Lanus, 9, and her brother David Lanus, Jr., 6, were killed when an SUV careened off Bluff Road hitting the group of people fishing on the side of the road.
"You know that's why he went fishing and took them to do stuff like that, so they called that a day out and they were going fishing to pick some of their friends up and they would spend a day fishing," said Calvin Lewis, a family member of the victims.
Lewis says the childrens' father, David Lanus, was an exemplary father.
"Every time you see them when you pass, they're out there waving when you pass, he was really protective of the kids, trying to be a good role model for them," said Lewis.
The driver of the SUV, Shawnette Taylor, 47, has not been charged with any crimes.
