Families plant trees in celebration of Arbor Day
Families planted dozens of trees in celebration of Arbor Day at the Burden Center in Baton Rouge this morning.
The event supports and promotes educational programs of the LSU AgCenter, the Burden Horticulture Society and the La. Department of Agriculture and Forestry.
Families planted packets of tree seedlings provided by the Roy O. Martin Lumber Company and the La. Forestry Association. The trees are part of a reforestation project in the Burden woods.
People who planted a tree got GPS coordinates so they can monitor the growth of the tree.
The event also included a 5-K hike, tree scavenger hunt and a visit with Smokey Bear.
