False River reopened, Blind River gate closed
NEW ROADS - Parish officials reopened False River to recreational boating Thursday morning, though some other restrictions on area waterways remained in effect.
The Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff's Office said the river had fallen below an acceptable level, and encouraged people to stay safe.
Ascension Parish officials said the Blind River was open and the Ascension Parish Drainage Department announced this afternoon boating access through the Marvin Braud Pump Station gate will open today at 5 p.m.
Officials with the parish's drainage department said water levels from last week's major rain event continue to fall at the station, but are not low enough to open boating access from Sevario Canal, New River Canal, Bayou Francois and Smith Bayou to Blind River.
Assumption Parish officials said no-wake zones were likewise still in effect for their area waterways. That includes Bayou Corne, Pierre Part Bay, Bayou Drive Elevation Bridge, Belle River, 4-Mile Bayou, Bayou Gannevail, Bayou Crab, Bayou Tranquille, Lake Verret Park Estates Canal, T-Bayou, Pierre Part Bay along East Drive, and Grand Bayou.
