Fake Drilling Lease Trial
The lawyer for a man on trial for making bids he couldn't pay on federal oil and gas leases in Utah says Tim DeChristopher had no advance plan to disrupt the auction in 2008. He says DeChristopher had no intention of harming anyone, including the federal Bureau of Land Management. DeChristopher bid $1.7 million on more than a dozen leases and federal prosecutors call him a saboteur. Environmentalists made DeChristopher an icon of opposition to leasing federal land for drilling.
