BATON ROUGE -A minor crude oil spill was reported this morning by the ExxonMobil Baton Rouge Refinery.
Lana Sonnier Venable, ExxonMobil spokeswoman for Baton Rouge, said the spill in the river at its Mississippi River docks is less than five barrels of crude oil and was stopped immediately after it was detected.
The company has mobilized its oil response team and equipment to respond to the spill. The the U.S. Coast Guard, Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality and all other appropriate agencies were notified.
As a precaution, ExxonMobil deployed response boats, boom and absorbent pads to the river to absorb any small areas of visible oil sheen that might occur downriver.
