NEW ORLEANS - State Police have been working extra patrols in the French Quarter for the past four months, but many worked their final shift there over the weekend.

The troopers were called in following that horrific shooting on Bourbon St. during the summer. Many French Quarter businesses hung thank you signs on their balconies, and residents said they'd be missed. Even though some are leaving, State Police aren't vacating the quarter altogether.

"The only thing changing as far as today is concerned is the landscape," Col. Mike Edmonson explains. "On a daily basis in New Orleans, I have 44 troopers involved in investigations, whether it's detectives, narcotics, intelligence or gaming."

Extra patrols will still be on hand during the holidays, bowl games and Mardi Gras.
