KAUFMAN, Texas - Deputies have been escorting some county employees into the courthouse today in Kaufman County, Texas.

The extra security is in place two days after the county's district attorney and his wife were found shot to death in their home. The shooting came two months after an assistant prosecutor was shot and killed near his courthouse office.

Law enforcement officers were seen today patrolling one side of the courthouse. One held a semi-automatic weapon. Other officers were patrolling inside.

Authorities haven't said much about the investigation into the death of District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife, whose bodies were found Saturday.

The county's top administrator, County Judge Bruce Wood, says he doesn't want to "walk around in fear every day." But he says, "Two months ago, we wouldn't be having this conversation."

Law enforcement agencies throughout Texas are on high alert. Steps are being taken to better protect other prosecutors and their staffs.

In Harris County, which includes Houston, the district attorney says he has accepted the sheriff's offer of 24-hour security for him and his family.
