NEW ORLEANS - A forensic pathologist has testified that a teenager gunned down by police on a New Orleans bridge after Hurricane Katrina was shot at least three times while lying face down on the ground after he was fatally wounded by a shotgun blast to the head.
Dr. Vincent Di Maio's testimony Thursday at the federal trial of five current or former officers charged in the deadly Danziger Bridge shootings supports prosecutors' allegation that police shot unarmed, wounded people who were seeking cover behind a concrete barrier and didn't pose a threat.
Di Maio, a government witness, said 17-year-old James Brissette was shot at least six times by at least three different weapons. He said a shotgun blast to Brissette's head would have immobilized him before three other shots wounded him.
