BATON ROUGE- A seafood industry expert says there is still a perception problem with seafood from the Gulf of Mexico, but that is the only problem.
Lucina Lampila, a seafood specialist with the LSU Ag Center, says surveys indicate people in other parts of the country still have concerns about Louisiana seafood due to the BP oil spill.
On a state level, Lampila and Baton Rouge retailers say people are starting to get over the issue. Workers in one seafood market say they are no longer getting questions about Gulf seafood like they did in the months after the spill.
Lampila says Gulf seafood testing will continue through at least February 2014. She says if problems related to the spill are discovered, the testing will last even longer.
