BATON ROUGE - A murder suspect came out of a hotel room with his hands raised, heeding the commands of nearby officers who had their guns drawn.

Baton Rouge Police and its special response unit surrounded the room at the Magnuson Hotel near Airline and I-12 around 3 p.m. Thursday.  After setting up a perimeter, officers shouted for a man in the room to come out to be arrested.

Baton Rouge Police said the man is Horace Alexander Smith.  Smith is wanted for the murder of 30-year-old Christopher Edwards. Edwards was fatally shot in October 2016 at a nightclub on North Foster Drive.

Only WBRZ was there to get video of the officers detaining the individual.  Reporter Brett Buffington was first to report information Thursday afternoon on Twitter.

Later Thursday as he was being escorted to a police car and taken to jail, Smith professed his innocence.

Smith's bond was set at $225,000.
