BATON ROUGE - A man was arrested, accused of trying to kill a police officer and a woman he stole a purse from outside a bar.

Police said Ryan Jones was outside a bar on North Acadian when he pointed a gun at a woman and demanded her purse.  Surveillance video captured the heist.  It shows the woman with a gun pointed at her face.

After getting the purse, Jones is accused of fleeing on a bicycle as the woman followed him in her car. She was on the phone with police as he peddled in front of her.

When Jones noticed he was being followed, he shot at her and ditched the bike, police said.

A police officer responding to the robbery saw Jones running with a handgun in his hand on the 1600 block of N. 31st Street where Jones fired a shot at the officer's car, according to arrest documents obtained by WBRZ News 2. The officer sped up and ran over Jones with the police unit and apprehend him.

"I was sleeping in my bed and I heard some gun shots," said one woman who lives nearby.

Michael Hubbard, who also heard the gunshot, described the scene: "I came out and saw a person laying down in between those cop cars."

"They had cop cars on both sides of the road," said Hubbard.

Ryan Jones faces a number of charges including armed robbery, attempted first degree murder and attempted first degree murder of a police officer.
