BATON ROUGE - A man who was seen riding on the hood of a truck Saturday afternoon says the driver tried to run him over.

"I didn't have a choice. It was jump up or get run over," Dwayne Huysmans said.

The incident started when several of his roadside seafood business' signs were stolen, he said. Each sign costs around $20.

Saturday, he caught the driver of the pick-up stealing his signs, tracked him down in his own work truck and confronted him at the intersection of Florida Blvd. and Marilyn.

That's when things got dramatic.

"When I come around the corner I said sir you took my sign, he was right there and when he hit the accelerator I went up and he went straight up through the stop sign to Florida Blvd and that's when we took the journey," he said.

The journey lasted for more than twenty minutes. Huysmans couldn't jump off because the driver never stopped until about seven miles away at the Baton Rouge precinct on Coursey Blvd.

But police have a different story. Officers believe Huysmans willingly jumped on the hood to get his signs back.

The police report of this whole ordeal was not available Tuesday.

Neither Huysmans nor the pick-up driver were charged.

Police say the signs were illegally placed in the right of way.

But Huysmans disagrees and wants more done.

"This man has issues. He needs some help, and he needs to pay for what he did here," he said.
