EXCLUSIVE: Emotional foster parent calls 911 in area Hakken incident
HAMMOND- A frantic woman is heard in the background of a 911 call telling two children to take cover when a man showed-up with a gun, demanding to take the children.
It's a call for help from an unidentified woman, the foster parent, of Cole Hakken, 4, and his brother Chase, 2. The call was made to dispatchers in Tangipahoa Parish after the kids' father allegedly showed-up at their foster home with a gun and demanded to take the boys last year.
The Hakkens are now the center of an international kidnapping case. Authorities in Florida said the boys' parents, Joshua and Sharyn, took them from their grandmother last Wednesday. The grandparents had custody of the two boys and were living in Tampa.
A judge in Louisiana pulled the Hakkens' parental rights after incidents in Hammond and St. Tammany Parish.
One prompted that call for help in July 2012.
"I need police," the woman screamed to an emergency operator. "I have guy at my house with a gun!"
Joshua Hakken left shortly after the call and never met responding sheriff's deputies.
After the most recent, and successful, attempt, the Hakkens took a sailboat to Cuba.
Cuba said Tuesday it plans to return the family to the United States, where Joshua and Sharyn will face charges.
