EXCLUSIVE: Delivery driver talks about seeing man under train
BATON ROUGE - Police said a man who was likely drunk fell asleep on train tracks near Tigerland and was hit by a train Friday morning.
A Baton Rouge Police spokesperson said the 20-year-old man was hit around 2:15 a.m. He suffered serious foot injuries as a result.
"It's mangled," Cpl. L'Jean Mckneely said as he described the injuries. "He had lacerations to the head. He was transported to the hospital where he is receiving treatment for his injuries."
"I heard with the possibility of it being amputated," he added.
"It really took your breath away," Jen Rogers said. Rogers was driving down Nicholson Drive near Bob Petit and saw the accident.
"Police were all out there. He was underneath the train," she said.
Rogers said the area is filled with people who are incoherent late at night.
"I've seen it before where people have been hit by the train or brushed...I've seen a man sleeping with his head in the road and the rest of his body in a ditch with a black trench coat one night," she said. "I had to stop a police officer and he about hit him while I was standing out in front of the road."
