The owner of a now-closed pharmacy in Grand Coteau has been sentenced to 15 months in federal prison for helping fill prescriptions for an illegal Internet drug company.
Paul Williams Jr. also agreed to forfeit $200,000 that the business netted as its cut for filling thousands of illegal prescriptions for a list of drugs that included sedatives, sleeping pills and anti-anxiety medication.
Federal prosecutors said Williams was working with a Panamanian company that marketed the drugs over the Internet and provided Williams with signed prescriptions that were obviously fraudulent.
Williams and his son were indicted in 2007, but prosecutors dismissed charges against the son, who served as bookkeeper for the family business.
