Ex-Feliciana official gets prison time
A former East Feliciana Parish police juror accused of hitting a former girlfriend with a small board and his fist has been sentenced to one year in prison.
State District Judge Tony Marabella immediately remanded Chris Ferguson Sr. Monday to the custody of the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office for transfer to the state Department of Corrections.
Marabella, who sentenced the 36-year-old Ferguson, to five years at hard labor but suspended all but one year, also ordered him to pay $3,300 in restitution to the victim for her medical expenses.
Ferguson, who resigned from the police jury after pleading guilty Feb. 22 to a second-degree battery charge, will be on active supervised probation for five years upon his release from prison.
