Evacuations reported after Lake Arthur oil well fire
LAKE ARTHUR, La. - Authorities evacuated a small area of Lake Arthur in south Louisiana after an oil well blew out Sunday, according to reports.
KATC reported the fire happened in Vermillion Parish on Highway 717 across the Lake Arthur Bridge. Authorities told residents the fire started when lightning struck the well.
Deputies said the well has been shut-in and controlled, and they are going to let the fire burn itself out.
Residents in a small area around the well were asked to evacuate. There are no reported injuries at this time.
