Evacuation orders lifted for some areas impacted by Bayou Corne sinkhole

NAPOLEONVILLE - Officials in Assumption Parish reported evacuation orders for an area along Highway 70 that was once impacted by the Bayou Corne sinkhole have been lifted.

The area to the east of Grand Bayou was under mandatory and voluntary evacuation orders following the appearance of the sinkhole.

Officials said the area has been investigated, and evidence indicates the area is no longer at risk due to the sinkhole and gas associated with its creation. All areas to the west of Grand Bayou remain within the designated evacuations until those areas can be further investigated and cleared.
