ST. MARTINVILLE- St. Martin Parish officials say that water is still rising - but at 8 a.m. today, people will be able to return to homes in some areas south of Butte LaRose. Other parts of that area will remain under mandatory evacuation.

A news release Sunday said residents need to be aware that some septic tank systems may still be under water, leaving the systems unusable until the water goes down. There's a boil water advisory in one subdivision.

People also are reminded to watch out for snakes and other displaced animals on their property.

The statement says water is rising more slowly than expected, with the worst-hit areas in low-lying areas west of the Atchafalaya River Highway levee. It says water may take several days to recede.
