Evacuation lifted after lightning causes oil well fire
LAKE ARTHUR - Authorities lifted an evacuation order Monday around a Vermillion Parish oil well which caught fire after a lightning strike this weekend.
The Vermillion Parish Sheriff's Office said the fire was allowed to burn out at the well, which is on La. 717 west of Gueydan off of Price and Laurent roads.
The lightning strike Sunday caused a blowout at the well, which officials shut-in and left to burn itself out.
Authorities evacuated people within a square mile of the well site and kept the well supervised as it burned out.
Deputies did not report any injuries from the fire.
