ESPN: Talks to reinstate Saints' Payton begin
NEW ORLEANS - ESPN reported this morning that talks have begun between the NFL and suspended Saints head coach Sean Payton to return him to the field.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell told ESPN his office had contacted Payton about reinstatement, and more focused discussion would happen after the holidays.
He also didn't rule out the possibility Payton could return to the team before the Super Bowl.
Payton was suspended over the Saints' pay-for-pain bounty scandal. ESPN also reported a source close to the negotiations told them Payton wants the suspenstion to be amended so it ends at the conclusion of the regular season, as opposed to after the Super Bowl.
