HAMMOND- A prisoner who escaped while being transported to Catahoula Parish Prison is in custody after he turned himself in to US Marshals early this morning.
According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office, 33-year-old Sedrick Smith, of Greensburg, broke free of his shackles, assaulted the transport deputy, broke a rear window of the vehicle and took off on foot about a week ago.
Sheriff Daniel Edwards says Smith was staying at a residence in Livingston Parish where he was taken into custody by the US Marshals and booked into the Livingston Parish Jail.
Smith was later transported to the Tangipahoa Parish Jail and charged with Aggravated Escape and Second Degree Battery of a police officer.
