Escaped Louisiana prison inmate caught in Arizona
PHOENIX - Authorities say an inmate who escaped from a Louisiana prison this summer has been caught in metropolitan Phoenix.
The U.S. Marshals Service says 23-year-old Michael Anthony Elliot Jr. was arrested Thursday in Youngtown, roughly 20 miles northwest of downtown Phoenix.
Marshals say they received a tip that he was at a home. Upon arrival, he allegedly tried to run out a back door but was confronted by law enforcement.
He was then arrested while trying to hide in the garage.
Elliot and another inmate used a ventilation system and then scaled fencing to flee Jackson Parish Correctional Center in Jonesboro in July.
The other inmate was caught later that month in New Mexico.
Elliot was serving a five-year sentence for possession of stolen property at the time of his escape.
