Escaped La. trusties caught in Tennessee
BATON ROUGE - Two trusties that escaped from a Louisiana State Police compound have been caught in Tennessee.
Ricky Wedgeworth, 36, and Darian "Drake" Pierce, 33, were taken into custody in Memphis Monday afternoon, but not before a crime spree including murder.
The two used a van to escape from State Police headquarters on March 4. Investigators say after that they killed 53-year-old David Michael Cupps, whose body was found in an Alabama hotel room last week, and stealing his rental car.
On Monday, they carjacked two city employees there and took their pick-up truck, hours later they were caught.
Memphis Police said the two fugitives were taken into custody after a chase that started in Olive Branch, Miss. and ended in Memphis. Officials said the officers were able to take the pair, who were considered armed and dangerous, into custody without injuries and without firing any shots.
The fugitives are now facing charges in four different states after their escape.
