A manhunt in St. Martin Parish for an escaped inmate is over.

Paul Collins was arrested Wednesday night in St. Martinville after deputies pulled him from underneath a house. K9 officers were also sent out to assist the deputies after Collins initially refused to come out.

"We received a tip that there may have been a possible sighting of him in the neighborhood, and it was on Church Street," said Maj. Ginny Higgins.

The location on Church Street is just two blocks away from the St. Martin Parish jail where Collins escaped Tuesday after jumping from a rooftop recreation area.

Collins was in jail, awaiting trial for allegedly raping and killing his estranged wife. In connection with his escape from here at the St. Martin parish jail, Collins is facing charges of aggravated escape and aggravated second degree battery.
