ER closure the talk of the town Thursday in Baton Rouge
BATON ROUGE - The talk of the town today is the health care of people in Mid City. There are two events to discuss the closure of the emergency room at Baton Rouge General Mid City.
The group Together BR is holding a press conference Thursday to ask Our Lady of the Lake, BRG, and the Department of Health and Hospitals for action to address the health needs of the community.
Clergy, community leaders and concerned citizens will be in attendance. The group will gather at Noon Thursday outside OLOL Hospital (7700 block of Hennessy Blvd.).
The group "The Louisiana Democracy Project" also has a demonstration planned to protest the ER closure. It begins at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Baton Rouge General Mid City on Florida Boulevard.
The ER there is set to close by the end of the month. Hospital officials claim they were losing $1 million a month because of a large influx of uninsured patients.
The closure has raised concerns about the possibility of increased fatality rates because of increased transport times to other emergency rooms.
