Entergy plans solar project in eastern New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS - Entergy New Orleans will build its first solar power project in the city, part of its effort to explore the reliability and cost of using sunlight to power local homes and businesses. The pilot project will be in service by late 2016.
The company said Wednesday it plans to install more than 4,000 solar panels at an existing site in eastern New Orleans. The project will incorporate new battery technology to test ways to store power on cloudy days.
The project will have the capacity to produce up to one megawatt of electricity.
The Solar Energy Industries Association says that capacity can power more than 160 homes.
Entergy did not disclose the cost of the project.
