Engineers talk roundabouts for Highway 30
GONZALES - City engineers are talking about putting up roundabouts along four intersections on Highway 30 in an effort to alleviate highway traffic.
Planners say they're modeling their proposal after similar structures in New York.
Traffic along Highway 30 is nothing like it is in Manhattan, but it can become very congested with the I-10 ramps, Tanger Outlets and Lamar Dixon Expo Center so close together.
Gonzales City Engineer Jackie Bauman says planners are looking into whether roundabouts could ease some of that congestion.
"The phase that we are finalizing is the actual analysis of the traffic volumes and flow," Bauman told News 2. "When we get past that phase of looking at traffic increasing volumes over the next 15 years of so, then we will get into the pieces and parts of how much it will cost."
The proposed intersections are Highway 30 and Cabellas, St. Landry's Road and where the highway meets I-10.
