Energy assistance program keeps heat on in BR
BATON ROUGE – People who need help with their energy bills to stay warm this winter can apply for another round of assistance from East Baton Rouge Parish.
The Office of Social Services is now accepting applications for its Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP. They will take applications based on need, and on a first-come, first-served basis.
To qualify for assistance you or your household must meet a certain income requirement, have an active energy account, be responsible for paying the bill and have not received a LIHEAP payment in the past six months. There is also a Crisis Assistance Program to help people with health or other issues, such as having no heater at all or being threatened with having their service cut off.
Applications are being accepted at several offices and community centers around the area. For a complete list and times of availability, call the EBR Office of Social Services at (225) 358-4561.
