Emotional scene where child was hit, killed by vehicle
BATON ROUGE- A one-year-old girl died after being hit by a vehicle Tuesday evening.
Authorities said a man was backing out of a driveway on North 17th Street when the child was struck. The crash happened between Bay and Chestnut.
The incident was described as a terrible accident.
Police said the investigation is not complete, and did not say if charges would be filed. They did, however, say they do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
At the scene, a small crowd gathered, visually upset. Adults were consoling a few small children who appeared to be crying.
