BATON ROUGE - After nearly two decades of waiting, a local woman is meeting for the first time the man who tried to save her child from a horrific car crash.

Mike Christen was driving an 18-wheeler in Gonzales 19 years ago when he came across Rachel Deville's wrecked car, which had been smashed from behind. Christen stopped to help whoever he could on the scene, including Deville's 11-month-old daughter Brittney.

The girl didn't survive the wreck, and the person responsible pleaded guilty to negligent homicide. However, he never served the sentence he was given, an oversight which wasn't noticed until recently.

News 2's Chris Nakamoto will have more on how this emotional reunion came about, and the challenges lying ahead in this court case, tonight at 10 p.m.
