Emotional mother pleads for help solving son's murder
DONALDSONVILLE - A mother in Ascension Parish asked a mysterious killer how they can live with themselves after killing her 15-year-old.
Katrina Augusta's son, Brandon, was found behind a levee in Ascension Parish last week. He was beaten so badly, investigators had to use dental records to identify him. Augusta did not get the news she was dreading until Monday.
Augusta vanished a week before his mother was officially told he was dead and deputies have a difficult case ahead of them.
After making the discovery of a body Thursday, deputies said it was badly decomposed but appeared to have suffered a blow to the head.
"I don't see how a person could live daily like that. How could you live like that?" Augusta asked.
Although the news is devastating, it was not a surprise. After the body was found, investigators told Augusta her son's initials were written inside of the clothes found on the body.
"I still had hope," she said. "I still believed he was going to walk around the corner like he always did."
"He's a child. He's 15. He hadn't saw his 16th birthday yet," Augusta said. "Somebody needs to say something. I don't understand. I just don't."
An autopsy is expected to be complete by Tuesday.
