GONZALES - Emerson Electric Co. says it will build a $10 million regional headquarters in Gonzales, creating 50 new jobs.
The company announced its Ascension Parish plans Friday with Gov. Bobby Jindal. The new jobs will have salaries averaging $49,000, plus benefits.
Residents living in the area the company plans to build in previously filed a lawsuit, worried the construction would ruin the small-town feel of the area.
Emerson works with businesses to help them automate production and processing for chemical, oil and gas, refining, pulp and paper, power and wastewater treatment plants, according to the governor's office.
The state will give Emerson a $375,000 modernization tax credit, paid over five years. The company also is expected to get an industrial tax exemption and a quality jobs tax break.
The regional headquarters is expected to be complete in late 2013.
