Election results for May ballot
Baton Rouge - All ten tax proposals got a yes from voters in the WBRZ viewing area. Nine of them were renewals and one of them was a new tax.
In east Baton Rouge parish, two tax proposals from the St. George Fire Department Passed. A Renewal tax which brought in nearly 16 million dollars last year and a new tax that will bring in an extra 2.2 million. People with 100-thousand dollar homes in the area will see their property taxes go up by 5 dollars and those in 200-thousand dollar homes will see a 25 dollar increase.
The rest of the taxes are renewal taxes which means property taxes in those areas will stay the same.
Renewal taxes for the health unit, schools, fire protection, and recreation all passed in Livingston parish. The fire tax which generates 172-thousand dollars for the department failed in December but passed in May with 92 percent of the vote.
In Ascension parish, voters agreed to extend the life of a tax that pays for a planned cleanup of a blocked bayou that keeps Donaldsonville and other areas from flooding.
All three property tax renewals for the school board in Iberville parish got a yes. The taxes generate nearly 10 million dollars per year for the school district.
