Elderly woman found bloodied, unconscious inside unit of Baton Rouge assisted living center
BATON ROUGE – An elderly woman was found unconscious and covered in blood Thursday morning, WBRZ has learned.
The woman was found in her unit at the Oak Park Plaza, an assisted living apartment complex on N. Bon Marche, by a healthcare worker. Sources said the woman’s care worker found her and described the scene as gruesome.
Baton Rouge Police initially stated it appeared she had been beaten but later said investigators are weighing the possibility that her injuries could have been self-inflicted.
BRPD's major assaults squad was handling the investigation.
The woman was rushed to the hospital and is expected to survive, police said.
Oak Park Plaza is a Volunteers of America property that offers “safe, affordable, one-bedroom apartments for seniors 62 years of age or older who are low-income and able to live independently,” the complex website advertises.
