EKL shuts down
BATON ROUGE - The capital city enters a new era of health care Monday as a longstanding medical facility has closed its doors for good.
Earl K. Long was forced to shut down due to state budget cuts and changes in the LSU Health System.
The hospital has phased out services for the last several weeks and stopped accepting patients Sunday.
Those in need of medical care can now visit Our Lady of the Lake's new 24-hour urgent care center on Airline Hwy as an alternative.
Nearly half of the hospital's 700 employees were hired to work at OLOL.
