Eight arrested after restaurant shooting and standoff
GONZALES - Eight people have been arrested in Gonzales after a shooting at La Mexicana Restaurant.
The incident took place Saturday night around 11:30 p.m.
Police officers were flagged down by employees and found three people with gunshot wounds outside the restaurant.
Five people were detained immediately and three more were holed up inside the restaurant and refused to come out. The suspects surrendered after a standoff that lasted several hours.
A search of the business resulted in the recovery of a .357 pistol investigators believe was used in the shooting.
Police say they were told by witnesses the shooting came after a fight between six employees and two customers.
Officers say that all eight people arrested are illegal aliens, one of whom was deported previously.
All eight have been booked into Ascension Parish Jail on a number of charges. Those under arrest are: Macaria Torres Hernandez, Maria Delrosia Castro, Javier Garcia Zaragoza, Angel Banales Chaves, Narvick Banales Chaves, Jose Magana Herrera, Jesus Alvarez Oceguera, and Leonardo Morales.
