BATON ROUGE - Edwin Edwards' grandson says Thursday marks the next chapter in his grandfather's life.
"We're feeling great, everyone in the family is," Edwin Edwards, Jr. exclusively told News 2.
He said a lot has changed since the former governor went away to prison for a racketeering conviction; many birthdays, graduations and holidays spent without their grandfather.
"He loves his family and the state of Louisiana a whole lot and I think that was one of the hardest things for him. Being away from his family and the state that he grew up in," said Edwards Jr.
Jim Brown served as commissioner of insurance in the Edwards administration. He says he’s not surprised Edwards’ release is the talk across the state.
"Edwin Edwards reflects Louisiana, that's why there's so much interest in him," Brown said. "He has highs; he has lows. He has wants, he's made some huge mistakes, and yet he had a lot of successes in his life. Certainly the most successful politician in the states history."
