VIDALIA, La. - For his second day on the job, Gov. John Bel Edwards headed to briefings on flood fighting efforts along the Mississippi River.

State emergency managers briefed the new governor on current operations along the Mississippi River as well as future concerns and plans for flooding along its length and the Atchafalaya Rivers.

After the briefing Edwards will fly over the river for a visual inspection and then attend briefings upriver in Vidalia before heading south to Krotz Springs and Morgan City.

Tonight Edwards will be back in Baton Rouge to meet President Barack Obama when he arrives ahead of his address tomorrow. Edwards will have a chance to chat with Obama on the tarmac at Baton Rouge Metro Airport, but has no meetings scheduled with the president beyond that point.
