EBRSO: Tip leads to different mall shooting suspect
BATON ROUGE - Sheriff's deputies arrested one person and released a previous suspect in the shooting this weekend at the Mall of Louisiana.
Casey Hicks with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office said investigators received a tip that the person they had arrested, Meco Green, was not the actual shooter. The tip pointed them to another person present when the shooting happened, 17-year-old Johnny Williams.
According to reports, Williams had a verbal fight with another man outside the Mall of Louisiana Saturday night, then fired several shots at the man. Two teenage bystanders were hit.
Hicks said detectives brought Williams in for questioning, and he admitted to shooting the weapon. He also had an outstanding warrant for armed robbery issued by Baton Rouge Police.
Hicks said that detectives originally arrested Green due to multiple witness statements and a positive identifications.
Williams was booked into the parish jail on four counts of attempted first degree murder, and Green was released.
