ZACHARY - East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a man accused of shooting his dog multiple times when the animal wouldn’t cooperate during a bath.

51-year-old Brian K. Blair, of Zachary, was booked on charges of cruelty to animals and illegal use of a weapon following the incident.

EBRSO deputies said they received several calls reporting a drunk man had shot his dog. Law enforcement went to Blair’s home and placed him under arrest. As he was taken into custody, the arrest report said Blair repeatedly hurled obscenities at the arresting deputies.

According to the probable cause report, Blair and his roommate were trying to give Blair’s black lab a bath when the dog would not cooperate. The man’s roommate told deputies that Blair then went and got a pistol, saying he was going to shoot the dog.

The roommate told authorities he begged the man not to shoot the dog, and his wife also tried to talk him out of it. When the roommate went inside to get his phone, he told deputies that he heard several shots and immediately called 911 to report a shooting.

Deputies said Blair’s wife saw him shoot the dog multiple times, and when law enforcement arrived at the scene, they found the dog under a vehicle with several bleeding gunshot wounds. The dog was euthanized due to its injuries, according to EBRSO.

Blair was booked into EBR Parish Prison where he remains at the time of this writing.
