EBRSO: Man accused of hitting, killing child
BATON ROUGE - Sheriff's deputies said today a Baton Rouge man confessed to hitting and killing an 18-month-old girl while the child's mother was away at work.
Detectives with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office arrested Willie Stone, 23, on suspicion of first degree murder for the death of his girlfriend's daughter, Azaria Jackson.
According to the sheriff's office, on April 15 deputies responded to a call for help at 4484 Floynell. Investigators said Stone told them he found the girl unresponsive when he went to get her dressed. EMS pronounced her dead at the scene.
The coroner's office said an autopsy showed the child's death was due to blunt force trauma to the head. Detectives brought Stone in for questioning, and said he admitted to hitting the child while her mother was away at work.
Deputies said Stone will be booked into the parish prison later this evening.
