EBRSO investigating double murder
BATON ROUGE - East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's detectives are investigating an overnight shooting that left two people dead.
The victims were found at an apartment complex in the 2100 block of Gardere Lane just before midnight Sunday night.
Officials say Orok Ironbar, 31, died at the scene. Russel Celestine, 31, was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.
A roommate of the deceased found the two and called 911.
"No, I didn't hear anything last night," said Edward Trusclair, who lives in a neighborhood across the street from the crime scene. "It has a lot of bad things across the street in Gardere. It's got two sides, you know, a family side and then the apartment side."
The building landlord and an investigator were at the scene this afternoon, speaking with neighbors and cleaning up. People News 2 spoke with said the two men who died were friends and together often. There is no word on a possible shooter or motive.
The Gardere area has recently been a hot spot for law enforcement. Last month, the BRAVE unit arrested 28 members of the street gang Big Money Block Boyz. They were indicted by a grand jury on various charges ranging from racketeering to drug dealing.
"We got a lot of children out here," said Dexter Ambeau, who lives in the area. "They should do something about that."
The sheriff's office opened a substation near Gardere last month. Sheriff Sid Gautreaux says the station will allow deputies to be closer to that part of the parish, which receives 30 percent of EBRSO's calls every year.
