EBRSO: Home owner caught car burglar in the act
CENTRAL - Sheriff's deputies said a home owner caught and held a suspected car burglar captive until authorities could arrive.
Spokesperson Casey Rayborn Hicks with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office said 21-year-old Shane Taylor was arrested and charged with ten counts of simple burglary and felony theft, as well as three counts of firearm theft.
Hicks said a homeowner on Arrowood Avenue spotted Taylor trying to break into a vehicle around 3:20 a.m. Monday morning. They kept Taylor from leaving the scene until deputies could arrive.
This comes after a rash of car burglaries in the area, and residents there said they were fed up.
"Very frustrating... right there too, because you think that you have worked to earn what you have and then for somebody to wait for you to go to bed at night and then tip in and try to clean you out, you know, it's aggravating, very aggravating," said Alvin Thomas.
Hicks says Taylor targeted unlocked vehicles in several subdivisions along Joor Road. Residents say they're glad someone is locked up and hope the burglaries come to an end.
