BATON ROUGE - The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office confirmed a man walked onto McKinley High School's campus after school hours on Friday and threatened two students with a gun.

Until noon Monday, the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board told News 2 the incident happened off campus near the school's track. This afternoon, spokesperson Susan Nelson confirmed it happened in the parking lot near the track, which is on the edge of the school's property.

Around 3 p.m., Baton Rouge Police responded to the incident but called in deputies to investigate because it occurred on campus. An 11th-grade student who was at the school during the incident told News 2 the gun jammed, and no shots were fired.

The school board and Baton Rouge police department have agreed officers in the area will increase patrols after school, according to Nelson. But from his understanding, BRPD Cpl. Tommy Stubbs said he has not heard of any increased patrols around the school. Officers patrol the area regularly after school already, he said.
