EBRSO: Fifth grader with unloaded gun arrested
BATON ROUGE - Sheriff's deputies arrested a 10-year-old student in Baton Rouge Friday after they said he was found with a stolen, unloaded handgun.
Deputies said a school administrator at Capital Elementary was told by a student that the 10-year-old had the gun. The weapon was found in the fifth-grader's backpack unloaded and missing a clip.
Sheriff's deputies said the student told them he found the gun at home, and that investigators found it listed as a stolen weapon.
Deputies arrested the 10-year-old on suspicion of possessing a gun on a school campus. The incident is still under investigation.
Authorities said students with information about this or similar incidences should notify school administrators, contact the EBRSO at (225) 389-5000, or text "CS225" plus a tip to CRIMES 274637.
